Do you have any idea about the IPA? or have ever heard about the consonant sounds in English? This time, we’re going to talk about this topic. It is important to understand what the IPA is, so, let’s read the following text.
“The IPA is the major as well as the oldest representative organisation for phoneticians. The aim of the IPA is to promote the scientific study of phonetics and the various practical applications of that science. In furtherance of this aim, the IPA provides the academic community world-wide with a notational standard for the phonetic representation of all languages – the International Phonetic Alphabet (also IPA). The latest version of the IPA Alphabet was published in 2015, and IPA charts are re-issued annually.”

First, let us tell you that in English we have two types of sound.
- Vowels: Vowels are sounds that come out of the mouth without being stopped. That means that the tongue, the lips and the teeth do not get in the way of the mouth making a flowing sound.
- Consonants: Consonants are different because the lips, the tongue, the teeth or the back of the mouth bend and twist the air to make a specific sound.
The best way to learn these sounds is to hear them clearly and practice them a lot!
When you are studying this language, it is important to learn the pronunciation of every word because they are different, it is not the same to say “apple” or “ airplane”. We recommend you to download the app about the phonemes, there are many apps which have the sounds.
Have you ever heard about this? People can speak with a good fluency however it takes a long time for them because they don’t know about the phonemes. If you have more examples, tell us! Ingles Individual can help you to practice the oral part !
